Title: DonJ Christmas Church at Night 12-25-04 Post by Admin on Dec 26th, 2004 at 11:25pm
I just finished a w/c series of 3 for an artical in Artist magazine.
The first one uses my opaque full color night palette, on the same page is a day painting in 3 transparent primary colors. The second is from 4,000 feet up on Haleakala and the third is the little church across the street from me in Lahaina. Both are 3 colors only. nightdaykauporoad500.jpg (Attachment deleted)

Gee, Don what is it? About 60 degrees? :) We have had to move inside, against my protests, due to near zero temp. . That's farenheit. Inside we do still lives. Not my favorite. but at least we're painting.
Don, my favorite of these paintings is Polipolinight500. What a lovely feel of a soft holy night with all its mystery. Thanks for sharing it. |

Thanks, what temprature is it when your breath looks like smoke..
I like still lifes.. It doesn't matter to me what I paint. It's getting so the medium doesn't matter either. I'd rather paint then watch TV. |

You can see your breath about 35 degrees or so, I guess. Just teasing about it though. I decided about a year ago, that if I did not truly focus on one area of my many interests I would not accomplish what I know I can. So, I purged my house of all interests, but my art supplies. I'm delighted with my progress, but, I still watch some TV ::)

I like your watercolor of nightdaykauporoad500 in that there is so much activity in the sky yet simple in the rest of the pic.
My favorite is polipolinight500. So calm, serene and beautiful. A real joy to look at and escape into. Very nice work indeed. Ruth |

Thanks, those were easy compared to architecture at night on location in watercolor.
To put the drawing lines in and see them I would have had to press on the pencil and I don't like to do that. So I did it with a brush. There was no time to take a second stab at it, it had to be mailed the next morning. I liked it enough to send it in, but I could have spent more time on it. Waterford is such a good paper, easy to lift, scrub and change. The Kaupo Road has livelier color, I was using opaque colors. The Poli Poli Night was done with only the three primaries, like the church and the day painting. |
