I have been looking at your painting of the egg and I want to tell you how much I admire you for tackling such a difficult subject matter. Opaque yolk with a sheath which is transparent, white of the egg- no dimensional stability so you must paint that wandering look of the egg's white.
I thing your success lies in your combining a dull,greyed purple with the bright yellow. and bringing the bright yellow sort of under and to the sides of the egg's white, which adds to it's transparency.
this is just a very successful painting of a subject not often painted. Bravo to you. Paul Czubay Cheesy

Go for the home-made casien, or at least just some pre-made pure casein and dry pigment

There is no reason to get that cracking. Wax can be added. This is not a thick medium.

Do you know what happens when you add a little lime to casein? It makes the strongest glue pre 2000 ever saw.

What I learned: Paint fast but don't paint over "wet" layers unless you are.....

VERY FAST.... Wink

This is an 8" x 10" on board, painted from life, this time I kept the setup.

For my next trick...I thought I'd try using just 3 colors fairly close to Don's 3 color approach, these colors aren't close enough, but it was fun, I mixed them from pigment and casien emulsion from Shiva, I must have used too much emulsion and I definitely painted too soon over previous layers becasue I got a lot of cracking, oh well...., I do have plans for this, I may try to seal it and use oil glazes to try and give this a full-blown aged look.

8" x 10" on board.

Someday I'll try a homemade casein mixture and see what happens. Smiley

This is probably why moms say don't play with your food, I decided I couldn't leave this one alone, I had nothing to go by as my setup was tossed, this was at least 4 days after completing it.
