Here's a testimonial from me.
It would be a nicer world of fashion and design if all artists were hip to the real color wheel.
All our fabrics would be correctly colored with their complementary colors and it would be a much more correct system in place.
As it is it is totally incorrect but I think it will continue to change slowly.
Thanks for all your hard work on this!!!!!

Hi Don,
Thank's for the tips on painting waves, I am currently trying to create an oil painting of our last holiday in Italy. I have made a good job of the sea and sky but was'nt sure how to paint waves on the shore line and in the sea, it just looks rather flat. I have tried using the edge of some cardboard and its ok but not the effect I am looking for.  The painting is of my hubby in a deckchair with his feet in the water's edge, want to create a very hot tranquill scene. By the way, love your use of vibrant colours and shadows, I also enjoy using these colours but my attempts are very amateurish compared to your excellent paintings above.
Regards, Franciszka

Hi Don,
I'm walden on WetCanvas and was reading your info on mediums & driers.  My sinuses are very sensitive so I can't use most of them in the studio, but I have been using Grumbacher Pale Drying Oil, a couple of drops in each pile of paint on my palette.  It contains manganese napthenate-- you talk about manganese siccatives but not this one in particular.  I paint only on hard supports.  I know that some driers can crack the paint, but do you think my use of this is ok?  My work is only sold on Ebay, for generally quite low prices, but even so, I try to use the best materials I can afford and not to do anything that would compromise the longevity of the painting.
Your work is gorgeous, and I'll be spending a lot more time on your site!
Thanks,
- Lisa

Hi Don,
I appreciate your quick response.
I'm a color addict and I'm not afraid to admit it.
I teach at the Fashion Institute of Technology in the Textile Development & Marketing Dept.  I've also taught Computer Aided Design at another college.
Most of my color working experience has been in color matching systems(software and spectrophotometers) and dyeing textiles.
I'm currently writing a few color courses which I want to be more of a studio course and lab work than a lecture class.  Students tend to remember better the things that they discover for themselves.  Most, but not all, of my students have just completed or will soon take a course on the physics of color science.  My goal is to have them experience the principles of applied color science in a variety of mediums hopefully to include light, gouache paints, inks, dyes on a variety of subtrates to include filters, monitors, paper (2 types: painting and computer) and fabric.  I would also like to make the scientific instrument world less intimidating to the creative and visual designer/artist.
I would like to use your CD as a reference.
If I can learn how to paint at the same time, I will consider that a blessing.
If you think it will help, I can wait a week or two on the CD.  The painting looks great.
I have a couple of questions:
Have you ever painted a picture en plein air, converted it into a black and white line art image, try to recolor it to match on the computer monitor, and then in a printout? Do you use any calibration software or instrumentation for your monitor or website? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks and have a great day.
Georgia

Don Thank you for your freely given love of painting.   I have been attempting to make up a colour wheel according to the rainbow, which I have long been convinced is the only way to truly understand colour.  God is a far greater artist than any of us and I am constantly amazed at the glory in nature.   I must confess that I have run into trouble with indigo.   I have indigo on my pallette, but could not seem to get the feel of what went on either side of indigo.  It just did not make sense until I beheld the light-filled colour wheels you have on your web pages.    Thank you for it all.
I operate a Macintosh and often have difficultly downloading to it, as most things are I.B.M. COMPATIBLE.   Please tell me, your colour pallette will download to a Mac.  I am new to this downloading business, and would appreciate any help I can get.   Thank you so much for what you have given, and if you do not have time to personally answer this letter, I will understand.   Thanks once again.
Would you please email me the drawings of waves as I would greatly appreciate them .

Perhaps you could help me. I'm looking for a formula for a black matt coating as might have been used on parts of scientific instruments from the mid C19th.
Have you come across something of the sort. All metal finishers can suggest id barbecue paint - what philistines! I'm restoring an old microscope that has some black parts that seem to have been coated rather than put in a blackening chemical bath.

What faboulous paintings.  How did you do that?  Must have taken half a lifetime to be that good.
You have given me the inspiration I needed to get my paintbrushes out and find the time to pick up where I left off.
Thanks

This he best site for painters that I've ever seen. My name is Robert Lemasters, my company is Bottega Master, I will be manufacturing and promoting Bottega Master Medium for artist's oil colors- mixed with tube oil colors it makes them instantly more beautiful, much easier to use and durable etc. etc. etc. Bottega is what old Jock Maroger was looking for- hands down it does everything Maroger medium was supposed to do but dosn't. I am looking for painters who can paint and draw freehand with some skill to help market this wonderful product before oil painting goes the way of the DoDo bird. Should you be interested my e-mail address is lemastersrh@msn.com.... keep painting
