Kaupo sees the sun rise and is on the dry Southern side of the island.
In this painting the church's terrestrial vanishing point is obvious. "All vertical lines below eye level connect to the terrestrial vanishing point. All vertical building lines above eye level connect to the astral vanishing point."
Notice the horizon line is curved, it's not a straight line. The higher you are above sea level the more the curve is pronounced. The highest part of the curve is in the direction you are facing.
