This painting is was done from a viewpoint below the church, so the vanishing point for the vertical lines are all pointing toward the astral vanishing point and converging toward the top. The pointed mountain in the background is the peak called Haleakala. It's the peak that can be see from the mighty island Hawaii. It's also called the Big Island.
