Some colors are opaque enough to over paint with, Cadmium Red is one of them, it's very opaque. Too bad we don't have a real transparent red in water colors, it would make life a lot easier. 2009, we now have Pyrrol Red and Orange. I don't have them yet.
Paint your color patterns right next to each other, don't overlap or leave white in such an obvious place.
