Fruit Basket from Haiku, Maui

5-11-86, #421, Acrylic on linen panel, 15x22

This was painted in the Piero Resta Haiku Cannery Studio, I was 45 at the time. Today, 9-20-15, I'm 74. The Magenta color was called Acra Violet when it first came out in Liquitex Acrylics, later it was changed to Magenta. This magenta on the mango only lasted for 5 hours before turning purple. That's a good example of why it's important to get your first 100% coverage done in the first day.

The texture on the basket was done with a 1 inch dry brush, then touched up with a rigger (long hair, pointed end, round ferrule). All the painting colors in these galleries were done with the same palette shown in mypigments.htm and explained in the colorwheel.htm section.

Black pigment is never used, it dulls and adds a pervasive green or gray hue to any color it is mixed with.
