| Cadmium Yellow Light and Medium opaque are the primary colors on a 36 color wheel, MIDDLE Yellow can be considered to have enough magenta in it to be 36RCW#2. It's necessary to go this deep into a color wheel for usable colors because of the lack of a transparent yellow in acrylics (new in 2013, Old Holland has come out with several acrylic transparent yellows, some are dual toned).
Transparent Yellow PY150 and PY153 in oil color can make all the cadmium yellow colors, Old Holland has been doing it for 125 years. Indian Yellow Original is impossible to get today since it was taken off the market in 1900. Old Holland has been the only company making it as a synthetic nickel transparent yellow color since then.
Danial Smith has recently entered the market but with only the Golden Side PY153 not the Brown Side PY150 which is the general color on the palette and necessary to mix a dark neutral dark with it's complementary color Translucent Ultramarine Blue PB29 or Indanthrone Blue PB60. |
